Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service Cadets consist of six units spread throughout the County. With the exception of Thetford all the units are based at retained stations and are managed by a cadet leader who is a serving member of the retained service. The cadet leader is assisted by an assistant cadet leader and each unit meets once a week usually between the hours of 1900 and 2100 hours.

Cadet unit activities are the responsibility of the cadet leader and may include educational visits to fire stations and departments within the brigade or to other brigades throughout the country. Summer camps, hill walks, forest hikes and even visits to other countries have been undertaken by cadet Units, in addition to regular drill nights on station where the cadets learn about elements of a fire fighters job. It is also possible for cadets to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme in some areas.

The cadet coordinator is responsible for a small annual budget and most cadet units raise money for themselves by way of various fundraising activities in order to pay for equipment and trips out.

The main aim of the Cadet Service is to provide a disciplined environment for young people aged 13 to 18 years of age from all sectors of society to learn basic fire service skills and core values. This in turn leads many young people to continue their involvement with the brigade by joining either retained or whole time service.
