Local Notes

Sprowston Fire Station Demographic and Incident Profile

Sprowston Fire Station is situated on the northern part of the Norwich outer ring road. The station is responsible for Community Fire Safety within four wards of Norwich City Council these being Crome, Mile Cross, Sewell and Catton Grove. Due to close proximity the crews also support activities in Broadland district councils area.  Operationally the crews respond into the centre of Norwich, although deployments further a field in to North Earlham, Acle, Wroxham, Aylsham, and Reepham are not uncommon

The Station is managed on the Wholetime 4 Watch Duty System which provides 24 hour cover. Each watch consists of 7 firefighters.  The Station Manager operates on a flexible duty system providing operational cover across the greater Norwich and South Norfolk Area in conjunction with 4 other Station Managers.  A rescue pump and chemical incident unit are located at the Station.

Additionally The Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service Unit is housed here.  This unit is crewed by volunteers from the British Red Cross but is alerted by Norfolk Fire Service to help people county wide cope with the aftermath of a fire or emergency by providing practical help, advice and comfort..

The stations risk profile is diverse ranging from woodland to residential to an International Airport and industrial risks. The operational crews work throughout the year to both mitigate risk where they can and prepare for any eventualities that may occur, both within the stations areas of responsibility and throughout Norfolk.
In 2009/10 the station attended some notable significant incidents both within the area of responsibility and wider a field. Please refer to our operational
Looking forward to the year ahead plans are well under way in the relocation of the central fire safety enforcement team to Sprowston.
