Radio Broadland’s Chrissie Jackson and Angie Clague will get the drive of their lives later this month after signing up for the Ladies Driving Challenge.
The Fire Fighters Charity (formerly the Benevolent Fund) has teamed up with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service to offer the unique experience which puts the fun into fundraising.
On September 20 the challenge takes place a few miles north of Norwich, giving women the chance to drive a host of weird and wonderful vehicles, from fire engines (guaranteed) to police cars, sports cars to HGVs and buses.
The Firefighters Charity has run similar events across the country with great success – and now it’s Norfolk’s turn.
This time round it’s women only behind the wheel (sorry chaps, maybe next time) and it will be an experience to remember for those who can join us.
Everyone taking part will definitely get to drive a fire engine and three other vehicles from the assorted number on site.
Chrissie and Angie are well-know to thousands of listeners every day on Radio Broadland and are certainly up for the challenge.
Chrissie said: “The new Sugarbabes single is called ‘Here come the girls’ – which Ange and I will adopt as our theme tune for the day. I can't wait for the driving challenge and to be raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity is the icing on the cake - see you there.”
There is still time for you to take part too. There will be instruction from a qualified driver on the day and then it’s over to you.
All you have to do is fill in the application form on the Firefighters Charity website www.firefighterscharity.org.uk and send in your £10 entry fee. All we ask is that you raise a minimum of £90 in sponsorship. You do need to be over the age of 17 with a full driving licence are welcome to join in the fun during either the morning or afternoon sessions.
We are looking to raise thousands for two very worthy charities, the Firefighters Charity and Help for Heroes www.helpforheroes.org.uk, both great charities doing great work.
Refreshments will be available on the day and there will be plenty of shelter should the great British weather intervene.
Chief Fire Officer Richard Elliott said: “I am delighted Chrissie and Angie are taking part and would like to thank them for their support. Both the Firefighters Charity and Help for Heroes are great organisations which do fantastic work. Both deserve our support and the Ladies Driving Challenge is a way of hopefully raising thousands of pounds and enjoying a day to remember.
Cathy Clark, The Fire Fighters Charity, said: “This is an exhilarating event and a great opportunity for women to drive vehicles that they would not normally have the chance to and raise vital funds. So, come on girls, what are you waiting for - register now.”
So please, join up, spread the word and help raise thousands for two very worthwhile causes.
To take part in the Ladies Driving Challenge, entrants should request a registration pack from Cathy Clark on 01843 866320 or cclark@firefighterscharity.org.uk.
