In 2008 firefighters from Diss helped to recreate a road crash for television. This was a real incident which they had attended. The following are some photographs of the mock crash.
But what would you do if you were involved in a crash or stopped to give assistance?
Here are some tips:
use your hazard warning lights to warn other traffic
ask drivers to switch off their engines and stop smoking
arrange for the emergency services to be called immediately using 999 with full details of the incident location and any casualties.
move uninjured people away from the vehicles to safety; on fast roads such as dual carriageways this should, if possible, be well away from the traffic and the central reservation
do not move injured people from their vehicles unless they are in immediate danger from fire or explosion
do not remove a motorcyclist’s helmet unless it is essential to do so
be prepared to give first aid as shown in 'First aid on the road'
stay at the scene until emergency services arrive
